Although Dele Alli added to his burgeoning reputation with another exemplary display against Everton on Sunday, my man of the match was Toby Alderweireld for a commanding performance in the heart of the Spurs defence.
Mauricio Pochettino recently labelled the Belgian as one of the best defenders in the Premier League and it is hard to disagree with him.
Alderweireld’s presence has been a significant reason why we have conceded the fewest goals in the top flight this season and brought confidence to all those around him.
His partnership with compatriot Jan Vertonghen has been excellent, with the latter growing in stature just by having the new man alongside him.
The 26-year-old has been a man mountain for Spurs this season, nullifying opposition strikers, making timely intercepts and commanding the team’s backline.
Add to that Alderweireld’s distribution with the ball at his feet, aerial threat from corners and leadership and he must be seen as the best summer signing by any club in the Premier League.
