Tottenham agree deal to sign Gibbs-White from Nottingham Forest

Tottenham Hotspur are set to sign Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White, according to The Telegraph.

The north Londoners are moving fast and already have a medical for the England international scheduled for Friday. The deal is all but settled, with Tottenham set to activate his £60 million release clause.

Forest paid £25m to sign Gibbs-White two years ago, so his current fee is a testament to how much he has developed into an all-round midfielder at City Ground.

Tottenham are confident of wrapping up the transfer, thanks to the player’s release clause.

Forest will bank significant profit from the deal but will pay Wolverhampton Wanderers 10% of the fee courtesy of a previously agreed sell-on clause.

Gibbs-White was an unsung hero from Forest’s phenomenal 2024/25 campaign.

While the spotlight was firmly on Chris Wood, who fired them to a Europa Conference League spot, Gibbs-White was the heartbeat of the team.

The 25-year-old playmaker notched seven goals and 10 assists in 34 Premier League games. He created 10 big chances and averaged 1.5 key passes per 90 minutes.

His performances didn’t go unnoticed, as he was rewarded with a senior England cap last season.

He was also linked with a move to Manchester City earlier in the summer, before Pep Guardiola’s side opted to sign Rayan Cherki from Olympique Lyon.

Back-to-back high-profile deals show Tottenham mean business

Gibbs-White’s exit will be a massive blow to Forest as they prepare for continental football. But their loss is Tottenham’s enormous gain.

The England international is an electrifying attacking midfielder who is adept at weaving his way out of tight spaces and taking any game by the scruff of its neck.

He drives at his opponents with plenty of pace and trickery and also has the eyes and technique to pick out a pass and create chances for fun.

It’ll be interesting to see how Thomas Frank fits Gibbs-White and James Maddison in his team. They’re identical profile-wise, but Gibbs-White injects a bit more pace and flair to the game.

The deal for Gibbs-White comes barely 24 hours after Tottenham also agreed a deal to sign Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United.

Back-to-back high-profile deals show Tottenham mean business, but there are still a few positions that need reinforcements before the new season.
