Tottenham agree deal to sign Joao Palhinha from Bayern Munich

Tottenham Hotspur are set to complete a loan move for Portuguese midfielder Joao Palhinha after reaching a final agreement with Bayern Munich, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The 30-year-old only joined the Bundesliga champions last summer in a big-money move from Fulham but he’s set to be on the move 12 months later.

The Portuguese international is expected to travel to North London soon to undergo his medical ahead of the switch, bringing his premature spell with the German powerhouse to an end.

Palhinha’s time in Germany has not gone according to plan. After impressing in the Premier League with Fulham, he struggled for regular minutes under Bayern boss Vincent Kompany last season,

He made just 16 league appearances in the Bundesliga but was only named in the starting line up six times.

Palhinha’s struggles paved the way for a loan exit, with Spurs now set to bring the former Fulham midfielder back to the Premier League.

Decent deal for Spurs

They’ve acted swiftly to bring in the experienced midfielder, with Bayern now giving the green light for the Portuguese ace to travel for a medical.

Spurs will take the midfielder on an initial season long loan deal that includes an option to make the purchase permanent for around €30 million (£26m).

The North Londoners will cover Palhinha’s full salary during his spell at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

This would be the second time Tottenham have raided Bayern this summer, having completed a deal to sign Mathys Tel permanently after an initial loan move.

Palhinha will provide the cover Thomas Frank’s side need in the middle of the park and his Premier League experience will come in handy.

He’d also be an upgrade on Yves Bissouma who has been linked with a move away from Tottenham this summer.

If everything goes according to plan, Palhinha will be Tottenham’s fourth signing of the summer after Mohammed Kudus from West Ham United and promising duo Luka Vuskovic and Kota Takai.
