Tottenham agree deal to sign Mohammed Kudus from West Ham

Tottenham Hotspur have reached an agreement with West Ham United to sign Mohammed Kudus for a £55 million fee, according to The Athletic.

The 24-year-old Ghana international is expected to undergo a medical on Thursday before signing a six-year deal with the north London side.

Kudus joined West Ham from Ajax in the summer of 2023 for €41.5 million (£35.7m).

He proved to be a value-for-money addition in his debut campaign, returning 18 goals and 10 assists in 48 games across all competitions.

His numbers dipped last season as he struggled with consistency, but he still managed five goals and three assists in 32 Premier League games for a West Ham side that finished 14th on the table.

Despite his modest numbers, Kudus is still a dangerous and creative force, especially in the final third.

Chelsea were initially in the mix, but Tottenham showed the most concrete interest, and the Ghanaian was extremely keen to join the North Londoners.

Their first proposal worth £50m was turned down, but they maintained talks with West Ham, having already agreed a six-year contract with the former Ajax star.

Kudus has three years left on his West Ham contract, which includes an £85m release clause.

However, with West Ham facing pressure from the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR), they were willing to negotiate a significantly lower fee.

Kudus is a statement signing for Tottenham

Kudus may not have been Tottenham’s first-choice target heading into the summer transfer window, but he’s certainly a statement signing for the Lilywhites.

Spurs kicked off the window by signing Mathys Tel on a permanent deal from Bayern Munich after a promising loan spell. They wanted Bryan Mbeumo or Antoine Semenyo to reinforce the flanks.

However, the former is keen to join Manchester United while the latter chose to commit his long-term future to Bournemouth by signing a new deal.

Kudus popped up on Spurs’ radar later on, but he could potentially be an even better fit. Thomas Frank will appreciate his ability to play in multiple roles.

His balance, power, drive, and 1v1 ability make him a nightmare for defenders, and there’s no reason why his numbers can’t return to what it was with a little confidence boost.
