Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a deal to sign highly-rated South Korean winger Yang Min-hyuk from Gangwon FC, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The 18-year-old will join the north London club in January after spending the remainder of the season with his current side.
Yang burst onto the scene in the K League 1, becoming the youngest scorer in the competition in over a decade.
His seven goals in 24 matches have caught the eye of clubs across Europe, with Spurs securing his signature ahead of rival interest.
The teenager will link up with compatriot Son Heung-min at Tottenham as manager Ange Postecoglou continues to shape his squad for the upcoming season.
South Korean journalist Sungmo Lee had nothing but praise in his reports about Yang, hailing him as the best young player in the K League.
Lee said (via Football London): “Yang showed great performances in the K League this season, winning the Young Player of the Month award three times in a row from April to June.
“He is a great dribbler but also possesses great finishing skills, which makes Korean fans hope that he can become the next Son, especially if he joins the same club as Son in Tottenham.”
Spurs have already added young talents to their ranks this summer, with Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall arriving from Leeds United and Djurgarden. Yang looks set to be the latest addition.
The club has also extended Timo Werner’s loan deal for another season while they prepare for a pre-season friendly against a K League XI in Seoul later this month.
Tottenham’s youth drive can pay huge dividends
This summer, Tottenham have taken punts on three teenagers, and these investments could yield significant returns in the future.
Gray and Bergvall have already started displaying impressive performances for Spurs in pre-season and will look to develop and become world-beaters in the coming years.
Meanwhile, Yang comes highly touted from his native land, and his early showings are remarkable. He could become the heir apparent to Son’s throne.
