Tottenham agree €60 million deal to sign Xavi Simons

Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a deal worth €60 million with RB Leipzig to sign Xavi Simons after receiving encouragement on the player’s side, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Spurs have been tracking the player for some time, but were reluctant to submit a bid, as Chelsea were also in the picture.

The 22-year-old Tottenham target had reportedly been waiting for Chelsea to move, but with the Blues stalling, Spurs have decided to swoop.

Simons bagged 11 goals and eight assists in 33 appearances last term for Leipzig, despite the German club enduring a frustrating campaign.

The former Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain starlet has already started the current campaign in top form with a goal and an assist in two appearances.

The Dutch international playmaker (28 caps) would be a fantastic replacement for James Maddison in the hole behind the striker.

Maddison is set to spend a chunk of the season on the sideline, and with Dejan Kulusevski also nursing an injury, Spurs needed to enter the market for a no. 10.

Simons is blessed with terrific vision, remarkable ball-carrying ability, and an eye for goal. He could be the solution the club has been looking for in the market.

Long-tipped for great things since his time at Barca’s famous La Masia academy, Simons could prove a difference-maker in North London for Spurs boss Thomas Frank.

However, Tottenham fans will need to remain patient until Simons officially puts pen to paper, as nothing is certain until the deal is signed and sealed.

Spurs have already experienced the frustration of watching rivals Arsenal land Eberechi Eze, and Chelsea’s lurking interest is a reminder of how quickly things can change in the transfer market.

Tottenham have moved decisively this time, positioning themselves ahead of the competition, but the fans should trust the process and wait a little longer.

This signing could be worth every ounce of patience.
