Tottenham among clubs interested in Man City ace James McAtee

Tottenham Hotspur are keeping close tabs on Manchester City midfielder James McAtee, who looks set to leave the Etihad Stadium this summer, according to Manchester Evening News.

The north Londoners are looking to strengthen their ranks after having a domestic season to forget, where they finished 17th in the Premier League table.

For context, only the relegated trio were worse than Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Tottenham managed to cloud their miserable campaign with Europa League success over Manchester United in Bilbao, but Postecoglou’s future is still up in the air.

Many expect the Australian tactician to leave despite ending Spurs’ 17-year trophy drought, but the club’s decision-makers are still tight-lipped about his fate.

Nevertheless, Spurs are carrying on with summer plans despite the uncertainty surrounding Postecoglou.

They want to bolster every area of the squad, and McAtee is one of many players on their summer wishlist.

The City academy graduate could also be open to a summer exit.

City are preparing for this summer’s Club World Cup tournament in the United States and will need a full squad in their bid to become world champions.

However, McAtee wouldn’t be part of that squad, with City giving him the green light to represent England at the Under-21 European Championship.

That call has raised eyebrows and opened the door to a potential transfer.

Not being part of the Club World Cup squad suggests he may no longer be part of Guardiola’s long-term plans even though the manager fought for him to remain at the club last summer.

Tottenham will face serious competition from a host of European clubs, so they must act fast if they want to snatch McAtee this summer.

Bundesliga clubs, including Eintracht Frankfurt, Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, and VfB Stuttgart, are circling, while Bayer Leverkusen – who had a bid rejected in January – may yet return.

Tottenham also have to be wary of Nottingham Forest, who have sounded out an interest in McAtee.
