Tottenham Hotspur have named Thomas Frank as their new head coach, just days after parting ways with Europa League-winning manager Ange Postecoglou.
Justin Cochrane, Chris Haslam, Joe Newton, and Andreas Georgson will join his backroom staff at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
Frank signed a three-year contract through to 2028 and becomes the 13th permanent manager to work under chairman Daniel Levy.
The North London club stunned the football world on Friday by announcing the departure of Postecoglou, mere weeks after he guided Spurs to their first major trophy in 17 years.
Frank may divide opinion among Tottenham fans, but the hierarchy believes they are hiring “one of the most progressive and innovative head coaches within the game.”
This publication has previously suggested that Tottenham could aim higher than the Brentford boss, and we stand firm on that opinion.
However, the data from Transfermarkt behind his Premier League tenure offers compelling reasons for optimism.
Over the last four seasons, only four managers have accumulated more Premier League points than Frank – a notable achievement considering Brentford’s relatively modest resources.
His average of 1.32 points per game may not be eye-catching, but context is key. Most of his peers near the top of that list have operated with far more financial backing and deeper squads.
Since he arrived in England in 2018, Frank has helped transform Brentford into a stable top-flight outfit.
Their net transfer spend across that time stands at just €112 million, placing them 19th among all English professional teams.
They have recruited brilliantly and given those players to an astute coach in Frank.
His Spurs tenure begins with question marks over whether he can deliver the flair and trophy fans crave.
But his ability to punch above his weight, build cohesive sides, and extract value from modest budgets could be just what Tottenham need as they aim to grow sustainably.
Despite any reservations, welcome, Frank! We genuinely hope you prove us wrong!
