Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou wants to shut all the outside noise ahead of crucial games with Liverpool in the Premier League and Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League.
Spurs face Liverpool this weekend and will be determined to secure a result to push up from 16th place on the league table. However, it will not come easily.
Liverpool need a point to secure the Premier League title and will come firing on all cylinders. Tottenham must play out of their skin to get a respectable result at Anfield.
There have been some distracting rumours ahead of the crucial run-in.
News broke out that Manchester City are showing interest in Destiny Udogie before Micky van de Ven’s agent tipped the Dutchman to solve Real Madrid’s defensive woes.
But the most prominent news making the rounds has been Cristian Romero and the interest in his services from Atletico Madrid.
However, Postecoglou dismissed the transfer rumours and brushed off the comments.
He said (via the Evening Standard): “If you ask me a lot of questions about my future, you’d probably get some great headlines out of that as well, but it does not change (anything).
“Do you know what is important right now? It is not Romero’s future or anyone else’s future.
“It is that we have an unbelievable opportunity to do something special at this football club, and for me and everyone involved internally, that is what we are concentrating on.”
Get Romero off the books this summer – View
With two years left on his contract (per Transfermarkt) and no signs of renewal, Tottenham should seriously consider selling Cristian Romero this summer.
His injury history makes him unreliable for a team that needs consistency, and now is the perfect time to cash in while his value remains high.
His ill-timed comments about wanting to play in Spain right after a damaging loss to Forest raise concerns about his commitment.
Postecoglou, who praised Romero last year and described him as outstanding, is right to dismiss distractions. However, Tottenham need players invested in the club’s long-term direction.
Selling Romero and signing a dependable, committed defender is the best move for stability and growth.
