Tottenham boss Thomas Frank delivers Dejan Kulusevski return update

Tottenham Hotspur attacker Dejan Kulusevski has been sidelined since undergoing surgery on his right patella towards the end of last season.

Kulusevski has missed the start of the season for Spurs, and despite releasing pictures of himself training on a bicycle machine, he is still far from a return.

Tottenham manager Thomas Frank spoke to the press today ahead of the League Cup clash with Doncaster Rovers, providing an update on the Sweden international.

Frank said (via the club’s website): “Instead of putting an exact month on it – October, November, December – I just want him back as quickly as possible.

“The medical guys and Kulusevski are working really hard on that. So, it’s not tomorrow, but hopefully not too far away.”

Asked later if Spurs fans could see Kulusevski back in action before the end of the year, Thomas said: “Yes, there’s a good chance of that.”

The Tottenham star has been a massive miss in the final third. He’s a brilliant offensive weapon, and Frank will be eager to have him back on the field. The gaffer hailed him as a ‘key player’.

Frank also offered an update on Spurs’ wider injury situation.

Randal Kolo Muani and Ben Davies are both carrying minor knocks, but Frank said the Doncaster game has come just a touch too soon for their involvement.

Both are expected to be available in the coming weeks.

Meanwhile, striker Dominic Solanke and young defender Kota Takai are edging closer to full fitness after longer spells on the sidelines.

Encouragingly, both trained with the first team today, which suggests their comebacks are not far away.

While neither is yet ready for competitive action, Frank described their progress as positive steps that will improve squad depth in the near future.

With multiple players nearing a return, Spurs’ injury picture could look far healthier as the autumn fixtures pile up.
