Tottenham could sign Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher imminently

Tottenham Hotspur can move ahead with a deal to sign Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher now following the conclusion of the 2024 European Championship, according to Football London.

Spurs are keen on signing the 18-cap England international, but he was focused on his international duties at Euro 2024 and refused to make any decisions regarding his future.

However, now that the tournament is over, Spurs can press forward with a deal to sign the Chelsea Cobham Academy graduate.

The Blues want to sell the workhorse midfielder to balance their books amid fears they could be in hot water for breaching the Premier League’s Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR).

As an academy graduate, his transfer counts as pure profit. His sale would help alleviate the pressure on Chelsea’s accounts after they shelled over £1 billion in transfers over the past two seasons.

Gallagher has been of interest to Tottenham since last summer, with manager Ange Postecoglou reportedly a massive admirer of his ability.

The 24-year-old midfielder has a tireless engine, allowing him to shuttle from box to box. He recorded five goals and seven assists (11 big chances created) in 37 Premier League appearances last term.

Gallagher had seven goals and nine assists in 50 appearances across all competitions – no Chelsea player made more appearances last term.

He was crucial for Mauricio Pochettino’s gung-ho football and will fit in like a glove in Postecoglou’s system. He is durable and brings leadership qualities, captaining his boyhood club in several matches last season.

Gallagher would be a coup for Spurs

Gallagher will make quite the addition for Tottenham, especially for anything less than the astronomical £50 million Chelsea keep demanding.

His box-to-box energy and tireless work ethic would see him immediately challenging for a starting berth in Tottenham’s midfield.

This wouldn’t just bolster the team on the pitch. He can also provide invaluable experience for younger midfielders like Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall.

Gallagher’s leadership qualities and winning mentality would rub off on these youngsters, accelerating their development and ensuring a smooth transition for Tottenham’s midfield in the years to come.

Securing Gallagher wouldn’t just be a win for the present but a strategic investment in Tottenham’s future.
