Tottenham defender Kevin Danso set for spell on sidelines after injury against Bournemouth

Tottenham defender Kevin Danso is facing a spell on the sidelines after sustaining a muscle injury during Spurs’ 2-2 draw with Bournemouth, according to Football London.

The 26-year-old has been a mainstay in the Tottenham XI since arriving from Lens in the winter transfer window.

The Austria international has been a crucial figure for Tottenham boss Ange Postecoglou. With key defenders Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, and Ben Davies sidelined for most of the season, Danso has played nearly every minute since joining Spurs.

However, concerns over his fitness emerged after the Bournemouth match when the Tottenham centre-back struggled in the final moments.

At full-time, he went straight down the tunnel, accompanied by medical staff, while holding his right hamstring.

Danso has earned high praise from Postecoglou for his consistent performances, but his potential absence poses another defensive headache for the Tottenham boss.

Fortunately for Spurs, Romero and Van de Ven have recently returned to action, and Ben Davies is also back in training, as confirmed by Postecoglou last week. Meanwhile, Archie Gray is another option.

Also, the coming March international break will allow Danso and other injured Tottenham stars to recover.

We talked about the need for Spurs to reinforce the backline this summer. If Tottenham want to compete for titles, the hierarchy must enter the market for another centre-half option.

The links to AFC Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen should be commended. He is young and can grow at Tottenham while providing cover. Spurs have an injury-prone first-choice centre-back pairing, and he will get ample game time to strut his stuff.

Huijsen has a £50 million release clause in his contract with the Cherries, and while it may seem a lot to pay for a back-up centre-half, he can become one of the best in the world at Tottenham. He can give Spurs enough years of service before even considering a move to a bigger club.
