Tottenham Hotspur have moved to quash speculation linking Mauricio Pochettino with an emotional return to the club, reaffirming their commitment to Ange Postecoglou despite recent challenges.
According to the Daily Mail, Spurs are not looking to bring the much-loved Argentine manager back to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
A section of Spurs supporters want Pochettino, who led the club to the Champions League final in 2019, to return to Tottenham.
However, the Argentine is fully focused on his new role as head coach of the United States national team, with his sights set on leading the country into the World Cup in 2026.
Pochettino, whom Pep Guardiola once referred to as an excellent manager, is determined to take the team to the grandest stage, making any potential move back to north London highly unlikely.
Also, per the report, there are specific clauses in Pochettino’s contract with the US team that would present significant hurdles for any club attempting to lure him away before the next World Cup.
These contractual complexities and his commitment to the project make his return to Spurs improbable.
For their part, Tottenham remain firmly behind Postecoglou, who has enjoyed a largely positive start to life in North London despite a recent dip in form.
The Australian coach, appointed last summer, quickly won plaudits for instilling an attacking philosophy and rejuvenating the squad.
However, the team is currently in a rot with one league win in ten and none in their last seven. Spurs sit in 15th place on the league table, far away from where they want to be, with critics scrutinising Postecoglou and his philosophy.
While Spurs have faced setbacks in their push for a top-four finish, the club hierarchy believes in the manager and his long-term vision. They continue to support his project.
If they do support Postecoglou, they need to back it up with new signings for the coach before the close of the transfer window on Monday, in our opinion. Injuries have ravaged the team, and they are notably light in defence and attack.
The Spurs hierarchy must give their manager a boost as they look to bounce back in the second half of the season.
