Tottenham duo nominated for Premier League 2 Player of the Month award

Tottenham Hotspur Under-21 midfielders Luca Williams-Barnett and Rio Kyerematen have been shortlisted for September’s Premier League 2 Player of the Month award.

This comes after a series of outstanding performances that have helped Wayne Burnett’s side make a flying start to the season.

Tottenham sit third in the Premier League 2 table, having won five of their opening six games. The only blemish in their near-perfect record was a 3-2 defeat against Crystal Palace back in August.

Williams-Barnett and Kyerematen have been at the heart of Tottenham’s lightning start to the season and are growing in confidence.

Williams-Barnett can’t stop scoring

Williams-Barnett was in flying goalscoring form last month. The 17-year-old scored four goals and weighed in with an additional two assists.

The highlight of his month was a spectacular hat-trick in a 6-3 demolition of Leicester City. He also flexed his creative prowess by capping off a sensational performance with an assist.

Before his hat-trick against Leicester, the attacking midfield prodigy bagged a goal and an assist in the 5-3 UEFA Youth League clash against Villarreal.

He had also scored in each of England U18’s friendlies against Canada U17 and Uzbekistan U18 earlier in the month.

His performances caught the eye of Tottenham’s senior team manager Thomas Frank, who handed the talented midfielder his first-team debut in the 3-0 EFL Cup win against Doncaster Rovers.

Williams-Barnett has been in sensational goalscoring form since the start of the season, racking up eight goals and five assists in nine games across all competitions.

Kyerematen has also been in fine form and flexed his goalscoring prowess in the Leicester demolition by bagging a brace on either side of half-time.

Despite being a natural central midfielder, the 20-year-old showcased his tactical flexibility by slotting into a false nine role with relative ease.

A week later, he returned to his more familiar role in the middle of the park and helped Tottenham claim a narrow 1-0 win against West Bromwich Albion.

Williams-Barnett and Kyerematen are part of an eight-man shortlist for September’s Premier League 2 Player of the Month award.

It includes Aaron Loupalo-Bi and Farhaan Ali-Wahid (Fulham), Joe Belmont (Brighton & Hove Albion), Andre Harriman-Annous (Arsenal), Tudor Mendel-Idowu (Ipswich Town), and Romeo Akachukwu (Southampton).
