Tottenham Hotspur may not have got the result they wanted in the FA Cup tie with Rochdale at the weekend, but one player earned almost unanimous praise from fans on Twitter.
Lucas Moura made his first start for the club since signing from Paris Saint-Germain in January and bagged a goal in the 2-2 draw at the Crown Oil Arena.
Whilst the 2-2 scoreline means an unwanted replay with the League One outfit at Wembley, the Brazilian excelled in difficult conditions and was one of the few positives to come out of the clash.
A sloppy first half was compounded when Dale took the lead in the 45th minute, Ian Henderson finishing a sweeping counter-attack after a mistake from Harry Winks in midfield.
Lucas equalised in the second period, receiving a pass from Moussa Sissoko and cleverly lifting the ball over goalkeeper Josh Lillis.
Spurs looked to have wrapped the game up when Harry Kane netted from the penalty spot minutes before full-time, but Steve Davies earned the underdogs a precious replay with a predatory effort in the dying moments.
Lucas’ goal may not have prevented a shock scoreline, but his direct running, pace and dribbling ability were all on show and left supporters on social media excited for what he can bring to the table for the remainder of the campaign.
There is a sense that the former Sao Paulo star offers something that was previously lacking in manager Mauricio Pochettino’s squad and he looks set to have a major role to play over the coming months.
Starting from the right and switching to the left flank at half-time, Lucas’ goal actually came from a burst through the middle of the pitch and his versatility will be useful as Tottenham continue to compete on three fronts.

Everytime Lucas Moura gets the ball the Spurs fans are raising the roof in support of him.
At long last a winger not afraid to to run with the ball and beat a man, we’ve been craving this for years. 🙌🏻#THFC #COYS

Regardless of the result today, there are positives to take. Much needed minutes for certain players and a great full debut for Lucas Moura 👏🏼 Danny Rose back on 🔥 as well! #COYS

I know its only Rochdale but early signs is that Lucas Moura is going to be very exciting indeed. Only thought is to run at players. With pace. Love it. #THFC

It’s strange to think I know but Lucas will look even better against premier league sides. He was harassed by 11 lunatics today but in the premier league, Eriksen and Dembele will find him space. Been a while since a January signing has come in and could affect the season #COYS

Early days but think Lucas Moura could become our Mo Salah? Pace, trickery, exceptional control, we've been crying out for this, another option. #COYS #THFC

Fair play to Rochdale last night, an amazing cup tie! Another game we don't need now. Only positive for us was Lucas Moura, so glad to have another wide player (along with Son) who actually looks to dribble past players. #COYS #THFC #FACup
