The dark clouds looming over Tottenham Hotspur have started to thicken as the window to salvage their Premier League status gets shorter with every match.
While Roberto De Zerbi hasn’t brought the new manager bounce fans would have hoped for, their performance in the 2-2 draw with Brighton & Hove Albion has reignited belief.
Tottenham’s latest fixtures and results have hardly been inspiring, but they still have a fighting chance with five games remaining.
The first of their final five fixtures will see them travel to Molineux Stadium where they’ll face one of De Zerbi’s favourite opponents in Wolverhampton Wanderers.
A win in that fixture could set the tone for a resurgent May, but Tottenham’s final four games will hardly be a walk in the park.
That said, let’s get stuck in with Tottenham’s fixtures in May and how we expect things to unfold.
Aston Villa (A) – March 5
Tottenham will kick off May away from home as they travel to Birmingham to take on Aston Villa.
This will undoubtedly be a tough fixture for De Zerbi and his troops, considering Tottenham’s recent record against the Villans.
Unai Emery’s side have come out on top in each of the last four meetings between the two sides, including knocking Tottenham out of the FA Cup in consecutive seasons.
Interestingly, three of those four wins have been by a 2-1 scoreline.
While Villa secured a 2-0 win the last time they hosted Tottenham, both sides have alternated between victory and defeat across their last four clashes at Villa Park.
Tottenham will be keen to maintain that tradition in what would be a massive victory, but we expect Villa to extend their four-match unbeaten streak, particularly with a Champions League spot up for grabs.
Leeds United (H) – March 11
Spurs return to home ground on March 11 when they welcome Leeds United to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium for a crucial battle.
At this stage of the season, there are no easy games, and each of the final four could decide Tottenham’s fate. But hosting Leeds should give them another opportunity to pick up crucial points.
Even at their lowest, Tottenham have always managed to get the better of Leeds and that should continue with a manager of De Zerbi’s calibre in the dugout.
Tottenham have won their last five league games against Leeds, scoring 16 goals and conceding six.
They’ve also lost just one of their last 12 league games against the Peacocks (W10, D1), a remarkable run that stretches back to April 2002.
Leeds have made themselves a nuisance against the top teams this season.
But Tottenham’s current position makes it a more level playing ground, so we expect De Zerbi’s side to keep this fantastic form against Leeds going.
Chelsea (A) – March 17
One week later, De Zerbi will lead his troops against their bogey team, Chelsea, at Stamford Bridge.
It’s open season for Chelsea at the moment, with Liam Rosenior’s Blues falling off the wagon, so there’s every chance that Tottenham could join the party on March 17.
However, that’ll be easier said than done given their woeful record against the Blues.
Tottenham have lost their last five league games against Chelsea and can only boast of one win in their previous 13 meetings with the Blues (D2, L10).
Their record at the Bridge is equally appalling. You’d have to go back to April 18 for the last time Tottenham beat Chelsea in West London, so they could be in for another painful short trip.
Everton (H) – March 24
De Zerbi’s side will then close out the season by welcoming Everton to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on March 24.
They’ll be hoping to be out of the drop zone before then, but a strong performance against a solid Everton side could send a message about what to expect next season.
Tottenham have lost just one of their last 10 games against Everton (W5, D4). That defeat came in mid-January 2025 when the Toffees claimed a 3-2 victory at Goodison Park.
Tottenham’s home record against Everton is even stronger, with the North Londoners currently enjoying a four-match winning streak.
They’ve scored 13 times and conceded just once in that run, while keeping three clean sheets.
Tottenham’s home record has been horrendous this season, but we expect them to claim a win in this final home fixture.
