The 22-year-old left winger has seen his profile rise sharply after an impressive showing at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
Initially entering the tournament as a squad player for Norway, Schjelderup quickly established himself as a vital creative force, registering two assists in his nation’s historic knockout win over Brazil and scoring a superb goal against England in the quarter-finals.
These standout performances have convinced Premier League scouts that Schjelderup is ready for a move to England.
Renowned for his explosive close control, spatial awareness, and creativity, the former FC Nordsjælland prodigy would add quality depth to the Spurs attack.
Importantly for Tottenham, Schjelderup has long expressed a desire to test himself in the Premier League. Benfica have offered a contract renewal to extend his current deal, which expires in 2028, but the player has delayed his response as he considers a move to England.
Prior to the World Cup, a fee of around €40 million was considered sufficient to begin negotiations. However, following Schjelderup’s World Cup heroics, Benfica have withdrawn that valuation and are now demanding a significant premium to sanction a sale.
Although protected by a €100 million release clause, Benfica recognise that this transfer window may offer peak value for the player.
With Liverpool and Chelsea also tracking the winger, Tottenham may need to act swiftly to move to the front of the queue.
