Tottenham hold long-term interest in Liverpool ace Curtis Jones

Tottenham Hotspur recently completed the signing of Conor Gallagher, but that has not stopped the club from targeting another central midfielder to bolster the roster.

According to the Daily Mail, Spurs have a long-held interest in Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, but are yet to make that known officially to the Merseyside club.

The Tottenham target is a versatile midfielder capable of operating in just about any role in the engine room.

However, Jones finds himself behind Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, Florian Wirtz, and Ryan Gravenberch in the pecking order.

Tottenham could provide a sweet landing spot for the 24-year-old to play consistently and prove himself, even though he would like to continue with his boyhood club.

Injuries have set back Jones, and he needs a consistent run of games to get back to his best level and maintain it. The Tottenham Hotspur Stadium could be the ideal spot for that.

Spurs could use progressive midfield additions this summer.

Thomas Frank’s midfield is crying out for a press-resistant central midfielder who progresses the ball excellently through the lines.

While Gallagher has his good qualities, that is not one of them. Meanwhile, Jones does have it in his bag.

Pairing Jones with another progressive holding presence would be the ideal way to set up the midfield going forward.

Landing Jones, no matter how complicated negotiations with Liverpool could become, would represent a genuine coup for Tottenham.

He is the exact profile Spurs have been missing in central midfield.

He is press-resistant, technically secure, and comfortable carrying the ball through pressure rather than recycling it sideways.

Jones still has room to grow, yet already offers Premier League-proven quality and tactical flexibility.

Harry Redknapp believes “He could walk into almost any team in the Premier League and play regularly.’

If Spurs are serious about evolving the midfield into one that controls tempo and territory, pushing hard for Jones would be a statement of intent and a deal worth the effort.
