Tottenham Hotspur are in the market for attacking reinforcements and have sealed a deal for Mathys Tel.
Spurs are also sniffing around Antoine Semenyo (AFC Bournemouth) and Bryan Mbeumo (Brentford) as they look to reinforce their faltering frontline.
According to Sport Bild, Spurs are part of several clubs negotiating with RB Leipzig playmaker Xavi Simons through his brother Faustino ahead of a potential summer move.
The 22-year-old could be sold this summer as Leipzig look to refresh their squad, and they have set a €70 million price tag on the Dutch attacking midfielder.
While Spurs have been negotiating for Simons, they have not sent in a formal offer. However, it is worth noting that Tottenham are not alone in the race for his signature.
Newcastle United, Arsenal, Manchester United are interested. There are also contacts with his former club, FC Barcelona. Spurs must act quickly if they want to sign Simons.
Simons bagged 11 goals and eight assists in 33 appearances this season after recording 25 goals and assists in 43 outings last term.
Tottenham refusing to address a critical issue – View
Simons is a ‘fantastic’ playmaker with a massive upside, but it feels like Tottenham are focusing on the wrong things. The team is not crying out for his profile.
Spurs have James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski on the books. There is no need for Simons.
Tottenham boss Thomas Frank needs a proper six in the engine room. It was a major issue last season. Spurs were porous and susceptible because of the absence of a top-class anchor.
Yves Bissouma had an underwhelming campaign at the base of midfield, making avoidable errors. Rodrigo Bentancur did a serviceable job, but Spurs need an upgrade.
Surprisingly, Tottenham have not been linked to anyone. Even Real Betis ace Johnny Cardoso, whom Spurs had a clause to sign, is close to joining Atletico Madrid.
The transfer team needs to identify a quality holding midfielder and sign him to add steel and screen the defence. Right now, Simons is a luxury.
