Tottenham keen on Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen amid Premier League competition

Tottenham Hotspur need reinforcement to bolster the squad ahead of next season, which is hopefully better than this forgettable campaign the club is navigating.

Spurs need upgrades in several positions from back to front. A couple of Tottenham players are also attracting interest in the transfer market, and the club could use replacements if they decide to walk.

Tottenham centre-back Cristian Romero is reportedly attracting interest from Atletico Madrid. Meanwhile, his partner in the heart of the rearguard, Micky van de Ven, has been touted as a player to fill the gaping hole in the Real Madrid backline by his agent, Jose Fortes.

If one or two of Tottenham’s starting central defenders leave the club, they will have to find a replacement in the transfer market, and the North Londoners are reportedly keen on AFC Bournemouth star Dean Huijsen

The 19-year-old is an incredible defensive talent. His former manager at Roma, Daniele De Rossi, believes the Spain international can become one of the best players in the world – an opinion shared by many in football circles.

The 6ft5ins defender reads the game well and snuffs out danger with a composure that greatly belies his age. His physical frame allows him to contend with more mature Premier League forwards, although he must bulk up to become stronger in duels.

Huijsen would be the perfect addition to the Spurs’ rearguard, but they face competition from Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, and Newcastle United in the race for his signature. He has a £50 million release clause.

Spurs must beat out competition for his signature – View

Tottenham cannot be deterred by the number of clubs in the mix. The club should pull out all the stops to get this transfer across the line.

As we saw in the Mathys Tel case, persistence, even in the presence of major competition, won Spurs the race and Tottenham must apply the same level of perseverance to sign Huijsen.

Tottenham have two injury-prone centre-backs and need cover for them. They are also seemingly hungry for transfers, and Spurs must present the club as the best step up for Huijsen.

The former Juventus star would get ample game time to continue developing at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium while boosting a club eager to rub shoulders with the elites.
