Tottenham ‘likely’ to complete summer signing – but who is he?

Tottenham Hotspur are ‘likely’ to sign Danish centre-half Joachim Andersen from Sampdoria this summer after starting talks with the Serie A side, according to the Independent.

Spurs did not add any new faces in last summer’s transfer window or in January, with the club feeling the financial strain of the impending stadium move.

However, Tottenham fans will hope that a number of new men will bolster Mauricio Pochettino’s squad ahead of next season.

The report suggests talks between Spurs and Sampdoria have already taken place and the North London side will beat Manchester United to the Dane’s signature.

But what do we know about him?

Andersen has been starring for Sampdoria in Serie A this season, with the 22-year-old breaking into the starting XI in 2018-19.

He joined the Italian outfit from Dutch side Twente in the summer of 2017 and has plenty of club experience under his belt.

The Scandinavian has started 22 of Samp’s 23 Serie A games this season and continues to be linked with bigger clubs.

Andersen’s ability on the ball and distribution is immediately evident, which will excite the Tottenham fans and fit in with what Pochettino expects from his centre-halves.

The Dane reads the game well, is a solid tackler and is physical, but is not as fast as someone like current Spurs defender Davinson Sanchez.

The similarities between Andersen and Toby Alderweireld are evident, which will concern Tottenham fans as speculation over the Belgian’s future continues.

Despite this, the Dane certainly looks like an exciting prospect and a player that would fit in at Spurs.
