Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing Valencia central midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia this summer, according to France Football.
Spurs could certainly use a new player in the boiler room as speculation over Mousa Dembele’s future persists and injuries mount up in the centre of the park.
Kondogbia had an excellent 2017-18 season at Valencia and his lung-busting runs from box-to-box make him an impressive proposition.
However, looking at it realistically, Tottenham already have Victor Wanyama to fill this role, with Eric Dier another defensive midfielder in Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.
As such, should Spurs invest in a new central midfielder, it needs to be one with considerable ability on the ball and a diverse range of passing.
Finding someone with the skillset of Dembele is next to impossible given the Belgian’s unique talents, but if he does leave this summer Tottenham will lose creativity from deep and a player comfortable on the ball in tight spaces.
Kondogbia certainly is an impressive physical player and someone that could be a star in the Premier League.
However, he is too similar to the options Tottenham already have – Spurs need guile and technique, not more brawn.
