Tottenham must pull out all the stops to win the race for Diomande next summer

Tottenham Hotspur are among a number of clubs set to slug it out in the race to sign highly rated RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande.

The Ivory Coast international has been turning heads since joining Leipzig last summer and has already been touted to make a big-money move in the coming months.

Tottenham failed to replace club legend and talismanic winger Heung-min Son, who called time on his decade-long spell in North London last summer.

That decision has come back to haunt them, with Spurs lacking any real goalscoring threat in the attacking areas, particularly on the flanks.

Tottenham have scored just 36 goals in 26 Premier League games this season, the lowest tally from any team in the traditional “Big Six”.

They’re also on track to record one of their lowest goalscoring campaigns in the last decade.

Tottenham desperately need to reinforce their attacking options, and Diomande would be a dream signing for the North Londoners.

However, they’ll have a serious fight on their hands with Diomande wanted by half the teams in Europe.

According to Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich are the latest team to join the race for the “outstanding” winger.

Diomande’s contract with Leipzig runs out in the summer of 2030 so the Bundesliga side are under no immediate pressure to cash in on their prized asset.

However, there’s a general feeling that they’ll struggle to keep him away from a big-money transfer, with several teams throwing their hats in the ring.

Leipzig are yet to officially name their price for Diomande. But Red Bull managing director Oliver Mintzlaff has hinted that an offer in excess of £87 million (€100m) may be enough to do business.

Tottenham would have no problems meeting that price tag, but they’ll have to fend off interest from Bayern and a number of other Premier League clubs who are also keen on Diomande.

The situation will be even more difficult for Tottenham if they miss out on Champions League football, which is looking increasingly out of their reach.

However, that shouldn’t stop them from pulling out all the stops to make sure they lure Diomande to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next summer.
