Tottenham Hotspur are interested in bringing Brentford striker Yoane Wissa to North London this summer, according to the Guardian.
Spurs have already snapped up Thomas Frank and held talks to sign Bryan Mbeumo. The club could be about to make it a triple swoop with a move for Wissa.
Per the report, ‘there have been internal discussions about a move for Wissa.’
The DR Congo international bagged 19 Premier League goals last term, forming a lethal partnership with Mbeumo.
However, Tottenham will face competition from Nottingham Forest in their bid to sign the 28-year-old, who can provide competition for Dominic Solanke.
Solanke has not delivered the goods for Tottenham, and the club is looking to add an alternative to the mix to give Frank more firepower heading into next season.
The manager also reminded everyone that Wissa had more non-penalty goals than Mbeumo.
Mbeumo and Wissa bagged 39 goals for Frank at Brentford, and the Danish tactician will be hoping they can repeat the trick at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The report mentions that Brentford are unlikely to sell for less than £40 million.
It remains unclear if the club will be keen on spending that much after doling out £65 million for Solanke last summer.
Tottenham should consider Emanuel Emegha as an alternative – View
Paying £40 million for a striker who turns 29 in September does not sound like good business.
If Spurs cannot get Brentford to budge on their valuation, the club should consider Strasbourg striker Emanuel Emegha.
The Dutchman is perfect for the transition football Frank plays.
The 22-year-old former Sturm Graz striker bagged 14 goals last term for Strasbourg to spearhead the Ligue 1 side to the Europa Conference League.
Emegha is a younger power forward who would be tempted by the prospect of playing in the UEFA Champions League.
Spurs might also be able to convince Strasbourg to sell for less than £40 million.
Solanke needs to prove that he was worth the punt, and a younger, cheaper understudy is what the club needs, even though Wissa is a proven quantity.
