Tottenham Hotspur are keen to sign Bayern Munich winger Douglas Costa this summer and Bayern Munich are ready to let him leave if Spurs pay his £30 million asking price, according to The Independent.
The Brazil international wideman has fallen behind Franck Ribery and Arjen Robben at the Allianz Arena and is being touted with a move elsewhere before next season.
Tottenham looked to add pace and power to their options on the flanks last summer, buying Moussa Sissoko and Georges-Kevin N’Koudou – but neither have worked out at White Hart Lane.
With talk that Sissoko could be sold after only 12 months at Spurs and N’Koudou still being thought of as one for the future, buying an established star like Costa would be a signing to get the fans excited.
The 26-year-old only started 14 Bundesliga games in 2016-17 scoring four goals and providing three assists in the process.
Costa has undoubted class though and the fact that Tottenham could land a player of his quality for the same price as the club shelled out on Sissoko will have many scratching their heads.
Mauricio Pochettino has arguably the Premier League’s most-rounded attacking unit at his disposal, with Spurs an irresistible force in the final third last season.
However, one thing that would really complete the team in the final third is devastating pace.
While Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Dele Alli are quick, the likes of Christian Eriksen and Erik Lamela rely on their creativity and footwork rather than physical attributes.
In Costa, Spurs would have a devastatingly fast left winger capable of beating a man, contributing quality delivery in the final third and offering goals from midfield.
Add to this his experience of playing in the Bundesliga, Champions League and international football, and the merits of signing the 26-year-old become crystal clear.
While there will surely be other big clubs interested in the Brazil international if he is available, if Tottenham could sign Bayern star Costa this summer it would be a massive addition heading into next season.
