Tottenham Hotspur have started preparing for a crucial summer transfer window that could be pivotal for their future.
Spurs need to bring in reinforcement in defence, midfield, and attack. They have started drawing up plans for new additions.
One name that will not be on that shortlist is Manchester City attacker Jack Grealish. According to Matt Law, Spurs cannot make a move for the England international because of their wage structure.
Grealish earns around £300,000 per week (Spotrac), far more than the highest earner at Tottenham, Son Heung-Min, who is on £190,000.
Also, from a sporting point of view, it is hard to see how Grealish fits into the Tottenham starting XI. He played his best football as a free-roaming central midfielder under Dean Smith at Aston Villa, and Tottenham already have James Maddison in that role.
Tottenham did try to sign Grealish while he was at Villa and have been linked to him since his £100 million move to Manchester City.
Unfortunately, a move to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium will not come to fruition for Grealish, who must be looking for a new home after a torrid time at Man City.
If Spurs are looking for competition for Maddison, they should look at cheaper and more exciting talents like Angel Gomes and Rayan Cherki in Ligue 1. Also, Tottenham need a reliable holding midfielder to take the starting berth from Rodrigo Bentancur.
It makes no sense for Tottenham to try to sign Grealish. Let that ship sail, and pursue more affordable and fresher options to bolster the team.
Tottenham’s summer window will be defined by smart, strategic signings rather than expensive gambles. While Grealish may have once been a dream target, the club must now focus on players who fit the Ange Postecoglou vision and their financial reality.
With key areas needing reinforcement, Spurs must prioritise depth, balance, and long-term planning over marquee names. If they get it right, this could be the summer that sets them on a path to sustained success.
