Tottenham set to miss out as Savinho nears long-term Manchester City deal

Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a massive transfer blow with their long-term target edging close to signing a new deal.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Brazilian winger Savinho is close to signing a new long-term contract with Manchester City that’ll effectively shut down any rumours of a future move to Spurs.

Tottenham were determined to land his signature last summer in their quest to replace club legend Heung-min Son, who ended his decade-long spell to join Los Angeles FC in Major League Soccer.

However, despite several attempts, City were unwilling to sanction his exit, forcing Tottenham to look elsewhere in their search for reinforcement.

It was unclear whether they’d reopen negotiations in January.

But those ambitions are now dead in the water, with Savinho set to pledge his allegiance to the 10-time English champions.

Savinho’s new deal is expected to run until 2031, which will keep him at the Etihad Stadium for a further two years beyond his current agreement.

He only joined City in the summer of 2024, so he has four years left to run on his existing contract.

However, Pep Guardiola strongly believes in his vast potential, and the Cityzens are not taking any chances, especially with Premier League rivals circling.

Savinho’s new deal is a huge blow to Tottenham

Tottenham pulled out all the stops to lure Savinho away from the Etihad last summer, but they were turned down by City twice.

The Europa League holders were keen to agree a transfer package worth around £44 million.

Savinho was open to ditching Manchester for the capital city, so the North Londoners were optimistic about their chances of getting a deal over the line.

However, City repeatedly made it clear that they had no intention of selling the player, who is considered a part of their long-term plans.

Tottenham went on to sign Xavi Simons from RB Leipzig, beating London rivals Chelsea to the Netherlands international forward.

The 22-year-old is yet to open his goalscoring account in four appearances across all competitions as he adapts to English football, but Spurs believe they have a huge talent on their hands.
