Tottenham star admits Pochettino’s arrival made him stay – Spurs boss critical to club

Mauricio Pochettino’s importance to Tottenham Hotspur has been showcased again, with star goalkeeper Hugo Lloris admitting that the Spurs manager’s arrival convinced him to stay at the club.

The Argentine trainer has forged a cohesive unit, with harmony in the Lilywhites playing squad and success coming as a result.

Tottenham’s long-term project has Pochettino as the driving force and Lloris has admitted that the current Spurs boss has dispelled any thoughts he had of leaving North London.

The French goalkeeper was being linked with a possible exit a couple of years ago as the club failed to qualify for the Champions League.

However, with Pochettino leading Tottenham forward and ensuring that the side now participates in Europe’s top tournament, Lloris has stated that he is happy at the Premier League side.

“If I’ve ever considered a departure from Tottenham? The question, I asked myself after two years at the club, before meeting Mauricio Pochettino,” he told TF1, as reported by Foot Sur 7.

“PSG last summer? No, although I have a lot of respect for PSG. I am focused on the schedule of Spurs.”

Lloris is the second major Tottenham player to speak of his happiness at the club in as many days, with Christian Eriksen also stating his contentment at Spurs yesterday.

Much of this credit must be down to Pochettino, who has fully invested himself in the project, relates to the players and has forged a winning mentality in North London.

With Tottenham’s success in recent years, it would be easy for certain players’ heads to be turned by the allure of other big European clubs – but it feels like the Argentine keeps those around him humble and focussed on the task at hand.

While plenty of those making headlines on the pitch are critical to what the team want to achieve in the long run, Lloris’ latest comments show that Pochettino’s presence is arguably the most important of them all.
