Tottenham striker Alejo Veliz emerges as target for Man City’s sister club

Tottenham Hotspur striker Alejo Veliz could be on the verge of an exit from the club following an uninspiring spell in North London.

According to the Daily Mail, he is ‘wanted’ by Brazilian side Bahia. They are serious suitors for the out-of-favour Spurs star.

Veliz is currently back on familiar ground in Argentina, spending the season on loan at Rosario Central, the club Tottenham signed him from in the summer of 2023.

At the time, the 22-year-old was one of South America’s most coveted teenage forwards, having impressed at the Under-20 World Cup on home soil.

However, that promise has failed to translate in north London.

Veliz has managed just a single goal for Tottenham and has made only eight Premier League appearances, all from the bench.

Opportunities were limited under Ange Postecoglou, and the club’s technical staff quickly concluded he needed regular football elsewhere to aid his development.

Loan spells in Spain followed, first with Sevilla and then a full campaign at Espanyol, but neither stint delivered the breakthrough Spurs had hoped for.

A return to Rosario Central has proven more fruitful, with goals flowing again and his confidence visibly restored.

His form has now drawn interest from Bahia, part of the City Football Group since 2022.

Spurs are interested in a deal. He is not part of Thomas Frank’s plans, paving the way for a departure.

Tottenham view his sale as part of a broader clear-out ahead of a needed squad rebuild.

Any windfall generated should not sit idle. Spurs would be wise to reinvest it to sign FC Porto striker Samu Aghehowa this summer.

The Spain international is the powerful, clinical forward that the Tottenham forward line is crying out for.

With Veliz leaving, Randal Kolo Muani likely following him out the door in the summer, and Dominic Solanke failing to convince, Aghehowa should be atop Tottenham’s transfer shortlist.
