Tottenham striker Dominic Solanke set to undergo surgery on ankle injury

Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank has confirmed that Dominic Solanke will undergo surgery to fix his ankle injury, ruling him out of Tuesday’s clash against Bodo/Glimt.

Frank’s side are looking to pick up where they left off in the Champions League after opening the campaign with a 1-0 win against Villarreal.

However, Solanke will play no part in the upcoming game against Bodo as his injury woes continue.

The former Chelsea and Liverpool striker has been out since Tottenham’s 2-0 Premier League win against Manchester City on matchday two.

He’s now set for an even longer spell in the infirmary as he undergoes what Frank described as a “small procedure” during his pre-match press conference.

“Dom has got that ankle issue that’s been bothering him for a little while, so now it’s time to have a minor surgery,” he said.

“It’s a small procedure, so that will mean he’s not ready for (tomorrow). We will have more news about timeframes after the international break, but I don’t expect it to be long.”

Solanke can’t catch a break

Solanke’s campaign has been disrupted by recurring injury problems, thwarting his chances of establishing himself in Frank’s team.

His injury woes started in pre-season, and he has yet to make his mark this season.

He has only featured in two Premier League games so far, racking up just 49 minutes of action in all competitions.

He came off the bench in the opening two games but hasn’t featured since.

Richarlison has been leading the line for Tottenham in the absence of his English counterpart and is poised to retain his place at the top end of the pitch on Tuesday night.

However, Frank admitted that the Brazilian striker also needs to be carefully managed given his precarious history with injuries.

At the moment, Richarlison and Mathys Tel are Frank’s options at centre-forward, although the latter was not registered for the Champions League.

Paris Saint-Germain loanee Randal Kolo Muani is also struggling to shake off a dead leg.
