Wales international Brennan Johnson handed Tottenham Hotspur another injury concern ahead of a high-stakes London derby against West Ham United.
According to BBC Sport, the 23-year-old forward ‘was seen hobbling off the pitch’ during Wales’ gut-wrenching 2-2 draw against Iceland in Friday’s UEFA Nations League fixture.
Johnson maintained his scintillating form with an early deadlock breaker on a freezing night in Reykjavik to put Craig Bellamy’s team in front after only 11 minutes.
However, Wales threw away a two-goal cushion as the sub-zero Icelandic temperatures petrified the Dragons in the second half, allowing the hosts to take a point with a quick-fire double.
Wales’ performance dwindled after the half-time interval, largely thanks to Johnson’s withdrawal at the start of the second half.
Bellamy subbed the Spurs rising star off as a precaution, suspecting a potential injury concern as the youngster seemed up the creek without a paddle during the opening 45 minutes.
With Tottenham taking on West Ham at home next weekend, Johnson’s injury was the last thing Ange Postecoglou needed following a morale-wracking 3-2 defeat at Brighton & Hove Albion last time out.
Johnson was on the scoresheet with an opening goal, making it three consecutive scoring appearances in the Premier League for the first time since joining the London outfit from Nottingham Forest last summer.
Unfortunately, Postecoglou’s side blew a two-goal lead after the break, suffering a third loss across their last five Premier League outings and, in turn, losing further ground on table-topping Liverpool.
Spurs will look to bounce back against West Ham when Premier League action resumes on October 19.
But with Son Heung-min and Richarlison injured and Dominic Solanke still trying to find his footing in North London, Postecoglou cannot afford to lose Jonhson at this critical juncture.
Timo Werner has been wasteful in front of goal, squandering countless sitters in the opening seven league matches.
On that basis, Spurs supporters fans are awaiting an injury update for Johnson with bated breath.
