Tottenham Hotspur will face serious competition from Chelsea in their bid to sign West Ham United attacker Mohammed Kudus.
The Blues recently agreed a deal to sign Brighton & Hove Albion star Joao Pedro, but Sky Sports report that they’re still interested in Kudus.
Kudus joined West Ham for nearly £40 million from Ajax two years ago, but he could be on the move again, and Spurs are among teams keen to snap him up.
If Tottenham successfully beat the competition, Kudus would be the first player to move between the two London clubs since Scott Parker made the switch in 2011.
Spurs chairman Daniel Levy is usually not a fan of dealing with West Ham. He even blocked a blockbuster move for Emmanuel Adebayor to the Hammers back in 2015.
But that long-standing transfer standoff looks set to come to an end if Tottenham can get to Kudus first.
Tottenham could do with more creativity and power in their forward line, and Kudus checks that box.
Spurs’ interest in Kudus comes after they were turned down by previous target Bryan Mbeumo. They wanted to reunite the Cameroonian with Thomas Frank in North London.
However, Mbeumo has made it clear that he would only leave Brentford for Manchester United.
Tottenham were also keen on Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo and Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze, but it appears Kudus is now at the top of their summer wishlist.
Kudus’ £85 million release clause is only active for the first 10 days of July, but Spurs are hoping to negotiate a fee well below that mark, especially as West Ham need sales to fund a summer rebuild.
Kudus is the spark Tottenham desperately need
Kudus took the Premier League by storm when he first joined, bagging 18 goals and 10 assists in 48 games across all competitions.
His influence has waned this season, but he’s still an excellent player and would be a fantastic signing for Spurs if they can pull off a deal.
Kudus is a dynamic, multi-functional attacker who will bring flair and vision to Frank’s team. He’s comfortable in tight spaces and lethal on the counter-attack.
Kudus can play anywhere across the frontline and is also competent when asked to drop into midfield.
He’d be a brilliant addition to Frank’s squad, especially if Tottenham can negotiate a cut-price deal. But with Newcastle and Chelsea also in the mix, they need to be ready for a dogfight.
