Tottenham told how much it will cost to sign Wissa amid Newcastle talks

Tottenham Hotspur are keeping a close eye on Brentford striker Yoane Wissa, but they’ve now been told just how much it could take to bring him to north London.

Spurs are huge admirers of the 28-year-old, who enjoyed a standout season last term. He fired the Bees to a 10th-place finish with 19 goals and five assists in 35 Premier League games.

Only Bryan Mbeumo, who has now secured a big-money move to Manchester United, scored more goals for Brentford last season (20).

In the Premier League, only Mohamed Salah (29), Alexander Isak (23), Erling Braut Haaland (22), Mbeumo (20), and Chris Wood (20) scored more goals than Wissa.

His numbers improved significantly from the previous campaign, where he notched 12 goals and four assists in 34 Premier League games.

Newcastle United have already tested Brentford’s resolve with a £25 million bid. According to The Athletic, that offer was quickly turned down.

Rumour has it that Brentford want more than double that figure, with a valuation of over £50m now being circulated to clubs showing an interest in Wissa.

Brentford trying to ward off interested clubs

Brentford’s valuation might just be a ploy to ward off interested clubs, especially after Mbeumo’s move to United.

The Bees would ideally not want to lose both players in one transfer window, and they’re hoping interested clubs wouldn’t be silly enough to pay over £50m for Wissa.

Tottenham would be well advised to look elsewhere for attacking reinforcements.

Spending that fortune on the DR Congo international would be unwise, especially if he’s going to be an understudy for Dominic Solanke.

Wissa has one year left on his contract, although Brentford have an option to extend it by another 12 months.

That just gives them more confidence to play hardball with any interested clubs, and they clearly intend to do just that.

Wissa has made it clear that he’d like to reunite with Thomas Frank at Spurs if he leaves Brentford.

Daily Mail chief reporter Craig Hope claims that Brentford could consider a bid of around £30m. On those terms, Wissa could be a smart addition for Spurs.
