Tottenham Hotspur are preparing for a crucial summer transfer window in which they hope to rectify the mistakes that led to their abysmal 2024/25 season.
Spurs lack depth in key areas in the squad and need more quality in other positions. There are also critical decisions to make regarding the future of manager Ange Postecoglou. The sporting leadership must plug these squad holes and address these issues to compete at the top.
Tottenham Chairman Daniel Levy, Chief Football Officer Scott Munn, and Technical Director Johan Lange will make these decisions. However, one previously important person might not be part of this process.
According to The Telegraph, Tottenham have not spoken to sporting director Fabio Paratici about returning to a full-time position at the club once his worldwide ban ends this summer, despite growing speculation over his future.
Paratici stepped down as managing director of football last April after receiving a suspension due to his alleged involvement in false accounting at Juventus.
His ban will expire at the end of June, leading to speculation about a potential comeback in football, with links to several clubs, including Juventus, AC Milan, and Spurs.
Despite being officially barred from football activities, Paratici has continued to provide consultancy services to Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy and attended matches. However, his influence at the club gradually waned following the arrivals of Munn and Lange.
Since Paratici’s resignation, Spurs have undergone structural changes. Lange took over as technical director in October 2023, while Munn began overseeing football operations in late September after a delayed start.
Also, Rob Mackenzie returned as chief scout, replacing Leonardo Gabbanini, who came in after Paratici left.
While Paratici is eager to re-enter the football world fully once his ban lifts, Tottenham are focused on their current set-up.
Tottenham have undergone structural changes since Paratici left, and his return would be a step backward rather than forward, in our opinion.
Also, the Paratici tenure did not change much at Tottenham. The club remained inconsistent, misfiring in key moments, and ultimately found itself underachieving.
Furthermore, Tottenham should prioritise stability and long-term planning rather than revisiting the past. Reintroducing Paratici would only muddy the waters and potentially disrupt the club’s evolving structure.
If Spurs are serious about progressing, they should resist the temptation to re-engage with Paratici and instead focus on empowering their existing leadership to forge a new path.
