Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris has stated that the point his side earned against Manchester City is a positive thing given the team’s performance.
Spurs were tentative against a motivated host, with Pep Guardiola’s men undoubtedly the better team throughout the affair.
Lloris, who is usually rock-solid, made two uncharacteristic errors to gift City a 2-0 lead, which had the North London side staring down the barrel of the gun.
However, Mauricio Pochettino’s side rallied and second-half goals from Dele Alli and Son Heung-min gave the visitors a point in a 2-2 draw.
Lloris has stated that Spurs’ resolve to fight back from a two-goal deficit shows the character of the team.
“At the end, in a bad day for the team, we got a point against Manchester City, who played maybe one of their best games of the season,” the France international told the club’s official website.
“I think that’s really positive.
“The only thing is, okay, we conceded some big chances but they didn’t score, they scored on the mistakes, especially mine.
“The first I’m a bit unlucky with because it’s handball and the second one, that’s part of football unfortunately when you are a goalkeeper.
“Of course, I would have preferred to avoid that but even at 2-0 down, the team had a great spirit, we moved forward and we scored two goals.
“It showed the mentality of this team. I’m pleased for that. I’m sure a few years ago we might have conceded a bad defeat in a situation like that. We needed to stay positive collectively and we were able to do that. The fans were happy and they pushed us until the end.”
Tottenham fans adore Lloris and there is little doubting that the former Lyon man is one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.
To have gained a point in a game that Spurs teams of the past would have lost is clearly a real positive and keeps the team’s chances of a Premier League title stint truly alive.
