Guglielmo Vicario’s time at Tottenham Hotspur appears to be coming to an end, with reports from Italy suggesting Inter Milan have taken a significant step towards signing the Italian goalkeeper this summer after agreeing personal terms.
The transfer has been in the works for some time. Inter sporting director Piero Ausilio travelled to London earlier this season to attend a Champions League match at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium alongside Vicario’s agent, Gabriele Giuffrida.
That meeting laid the groundwork for the agreement now reached with the player. Vicario, who joined Spurs from Empoli in the summer of 2023, is reportedly eager to return to Italy and has made his interest in joining Inter clear.
The main obstacle remains an agreement on a transfer fee between the two clubs. Tottenham are determined to extract maximum value from the sale, having paid around £17 million for the goalkeeper three years ago.
Inter are hoping to conclude the deal for a similar figure, though Spurs’ current predicament—fighting to avoid a first-ever Premier League relegation—complicates matters.
A club facing the prospect of Championship football has less bargaining power than one in a position of strength, and Inter are well aware of this.
However, the Martinez variable remains. Inter have not entirely ruled out promoting Josep Martinez to first-choice goalkeeper, which would allow them to redirect funds towards defensive reinforcements.
Nonetheless, Vicario remains the Nerazzurri’s preferred option, and with personal terms agreed, the deal now hinges solely on what Spurs can negotiate, given their position of considerable weakness.
Vicario is currently sidelined after undergoing hernia surgery, and in his absence, Antonin Kinsky played a key role in Spurs’ first league victory of 2026 over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
