Villa reject Tottenham request to reschedule Premier League fixture

Tottenham Hotspur are in the semi-final of the Europa League, where Spurs face Bodo/Glimt. The North Londoners will back themselves to get past the tricky Norwegians, but it won’t be easy.

Spurs have been diabolical in the Premier League, losing 19 of 34 games. Only the bottom three clubs have lost more matches than Tottenham this term.

Spurs can still salvage this season by clinching silverware via the Europa League. It is also a chance to secure UEFA Champions League football for next season.

However, their chances of winning the Europa League trophy took a blow after Aston Villa vehemently rejected their plea to reschedule their Premier League fixture.

Villa formally wrote to the Premier League to strongly oppose Tottenham’s request to move their upcoming fixture at Villa Park to an earlier date.

Spurs are seeking to reschedule the match for Thursday, May 15, to allow extra preparation time ahead of a potential Europa League final, set for Wednesday, May 21 at San Mames.

The fixture is currently slated for Sunday, May 18. Villa have rejected the proposal, citing the demands of their already congested fixture list.

The Villains also stressed that moving the Tottenham game to May 15 would leave them with even less recovery time following an away match at Bournemouth on Saturday, May 10.

No favours: Spurs must fight their own battle – View

Tottenham should not expect any favours from Villa or the Premier League. Villa want to secure a place in the Champions League and rightly refused to compromise their schedule for Spurs.

Villa have every right to prioritise their campaign, just as Tottenham must now focus on theirs.

Spurs are in a fight for silverware and a path back to the Champions League, and no one will hand it to them.

If Tottenham are serious about salvaging their season, they must overcome every obstacle, starting with Bodo/Glimt. Spurs must do it without looking around for help that isn’t coming.
