Wales want Tottenham talent Mikey Moore to switch international allegiances

Wales are making a strong push to convince highly rated Tottenham Hotspur winger Mikey Moore to change his international allegiance from England, BBC reports.

The 18-year-old winger joined Scottish Premiership giants Rangers on a season-long loan last summer and has already caught the eye with his talent and maturity.

Moore was born in London and has represented England at the youth level, but he qualifies for Wales through a grandparent.

The Football Association of Wales have already reached out to Moore directly, with senior figures, including men’s head coach Craig Bellamy, holding talks with the teenager.

Moore is considered one of the finest talents to come through Tottenham’s academy in recent years.

He became Tottenham’s youngest-ever Premier League player when he made his first-team debut in a 2-0 home defeat against Manchester City back in May 2024.

At just 16 years and 277 days, the teenager beat the record previously held by fellow Tottenham academy graduate Dane Scarlett.

Months after breaking Scarlett’s record, Moore etched his name into the club’s history books again when he broke Jimmy Greaves’ long-standing record.

He became the youngest English player to score for Tottenham in a major European competition en route to the club’s Europa League success.

Moore has enough time to decide his future

While Wales are keen to secure his services, Moore does not have to rush his decision.

Even if he decides to represent England at first, FIFA rules allow players to switch allegiance provided they have not played more than three competitive senior matches before the age of 21.

Welsh duo David Brooks and Jordan James started their youth careers with England before changing course, and Moore could follow suit.

Arsenal midfielder Declan Rice also famously switched Ireland for England after making three senior appearances, although he only featured in friendly games.

Bellamy wants to build his Welsh side around emerging young talents, and Moore is seen as a potential cornerstone of the national team in the future.

England are already spoilt for choice in the attacking department and will struggle to find a slot for Moore, which could limit his opportunities in the long term.
