“We want him to stay forever” – Fulham slam door on Tottenham pursuit of Marco Silva

Tottenham Hotspur will likely opt for a managerial change this summer after Ange Postecoglou’s underwhelming second season in charge of the North London club.

The loss to Wolverhampton Wanderers over the weekend leaves Tottenham in 15th place on the Premier League log. It was the 17th league defeat this season, and the Australian tactician cannot survive such an abysmal record.

Several names have been linked with the Tottenham job over the past weeks, the most prominent of the bunch being AFC Bournemouth gaffer Andoni Iraola.

However, the Cherries are determined to hold on to the Spaniard. Club owner Bill Foley is set to travel to London this week to settle Iraola’s future. Talks over a new deal are expected to accelerate upon the US businessman’s arrival.

With Tottenham’s chances slimming on that end, Spurs have been dealt another blow with Fulham vice-chairman Tony Khan issuing a hands-off warning to potential suitors for head coach Marco Silva. Khan reiterated that he wants the Portuguese manager to stay at the club forever.

Silva is reportedly another serious target for Spurs this summer.

“Marco is a huge, huge asset to Fulham Football Club,” Khan said (via the BBC). “He is such an amazing person, and he is so important to the football club.

“Marco has a great relationship with my father and myself, and we really love Marco, and we want him to stay at Fulham Football Club forever. He is a huge part of what we have got going for the future and the present, and he is a great man.”

Spurs should set their sights higher than Silva or Iraola – View

Spurs fans should not lose any sleep over Silva or Iraola staying put. Truthfully, neither manager represents the kind of ambition Tottenham should be showing right now.

After another limp campaign, this is a club crying out for a proven, elite-level coach, someone who can match the club’s stature, handle its pressure, and inspire something more than mid-table mediocrity.

Settling for the best of the rest is not going to cut it anymore. Tottenham need to think bigger, act bolder, and target a manager with a genuine track record of winning at the highest level.

If Silva and Iraola are off the table, so be it. That might just be a blessing in disguise.
