“We want to prevail” – Frankfurt fire warning at Tottenham ahead of Europa League showdown

Tottenham Hotspur are preparing for a quarter-final UEFA Europa League showdown with Eintracht Frankfurt. Spurs desperately need to salvage something from a disastrous 2024/25 season, and this is their only remaining chance at silverware.

Tottenham will back themselves to come out on top against a Frankfurt side that has struggled recently. Die Adler has been wildly inconsistent since February. They have only three wins in their last ten matches.

However, Spurs will be tested by a team with many weapons – talisman Hugo Ekitike and the talented Hugo Larsson, alongside veteran Mario Gotze, are dangerous players that require attention.

Frankfurt are keen to emulate their 2021/22 Europa League success, and head coach Dino Toppmoller warned Tottenham that they want a win in North London, rallying the troops ahead of a pulsating showdown.

“We are extremely excited about this game,” Toppmoller said at the pre-match press conference yesterday. “It is an absolute highlight for all of us. Both teams are well-deserved to be in the quarter-finals. It will be a thrilling duel, and, of course, we want to prevail.

“We know about the quality of Son, Johnson, Odobert, Solanke and co, but we also have a good squad and together we can stand up to Tottenham. We want to get ahead with the mentality of the underdog,” the 44-year-old said.

Tottenham must be wary. Frankfurt have proper Europa League pedigree. They knocked Ajax out in the previous round, beating the Eredivisie table-toppers in both legs.

The North Londoners must also contain striker Ekitike, who is set to be one of the hottest properties in the transfer market this summer, with several European clubs looking for a new centre-forward.

Ekitike, valued at €80 million, can cause Spurs massive problems at the back. He is a rangy forward who presses well and never stops making dangerous runs, similar to Nicolas Jackson, who tends to worry the Tottenham defensive line.

Tottenham must keep a watchful eye on Ekitike and co, especially after receiving a boost from the return of talented striker Elye Wahi and exciting midfielder Can Uzun, who has five goals and two assists in 26 appearances this season.
