New Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank has vowed to build on the success of Ange Postecoglou’s brief but memorable reign and turn the club into “serial winners”.
Postecoglou ended Spurs’ 17-year trophy drought with a memorable Europa League final win over Manchester United in May, lifting silverware in Bilbao.
However, that wasn’t enough to salvage his job after an awful domestic campaign, with chairman Daniel Levy reiterating that the club’s long-term goal is to win the Premier League.
Tottenham wasted no time appointing Postecoglou’s successor, with Frank joining from Brentford on a three-year deal.
In his first interview, he sent a classy message to his predecessor, hailing the Australian as a “legend” and praising the foundations he has laid.
But Frank also made it clear he wants to raise the bar at Tottenham.
“Huge congratulations to the Club, to the team (for the Europa League triumph),” Frank said via the club’s website.
“Huge congratulations to Ange (Postecoglou) – I think Ange has done something special. He’ll forever be a legend in Tottenham.
“It’s important to understand we all stand on the shoulders of others. I’m going in on the foundation Ange built, and his coaching staff, and I’m very humble about that.
“I’ll do my very best to continue the great work he put in. Now we need to do [our] best to see whether we can be serial winners in the future.”
With Tottenham returning to the Champions League, Frank echoed Levy’s ambitions about winning the Premier League and Europe’s biggest prize.
He talked about wanting to create “magic” for the fans. He also made it clear he wants to build a team that wins consistently and plays an attacking brand of football.
“We haven’t played one game yet,” he added. “Hopefully we’ll win a lot.
“We’ll work very hard every single day to make sure we create as many magic moments for the fans and put them together, and at the end of the season, we’ll have had a very good season.
“I know the ethos and the history of the club is massive on attacking football, and there is so much attacking talent in the squad.”
