Tottenham Hotspur are weighing up a bold move for Sean Dyche as they search for a way out of their growing relegation crisis, according to The Telegraph.
The club had identified Roberto De Zerbi as their top target, but his reluctance to take charge immediately has forced Spurs to consider alternative options.
De Zerbi recently left Ligue 1 club Olympique Marseille and is open to joining Tottenham but only at the end of the season when the club’s situation is sorted.
While he remains open to the role in the summer, the club’s ongoing Premier League survival battle means they may not have the luxury of waiting.
Tottenham appointed Igor Tudor as interim manager, but he has struggled to pull the club out of their rut despite coming in with a reputation as a firefighter.
Results have hardly improved, with the Croatian manager picking up just one point from six Premier League matches.
The 3-0 defeat at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium made the club’s situation even worse, leaving them just a point and a place above the relegation zone.
Tottenham are next in action against Sunderland on April 12 but the club have started considering alternatives with just seven games remaining this season.
Dyche would be perfect for Tottenham’s survival battle
Tottenham are seriously considering Tudor’s future in the dugout, although the circumstances have been further complicated by the recent death of his father.
While there’s a pressing need to act, the club must also consider the sensitivity of the situation.
Tottenham’s desperation for Premier League survival has brought the possibility of bringing in Dyche to salvage the club’s situation.
Like Tudor, Dyche is also famous for defying the odds and pulling clubs out of a rut. But his experience in the Premier League gives him the upper hand over his Croatian counterpart.
Dyche has successfully guided Everton through two relegation battles, although he was recently dismissed at Nottingham Forest for poor results.
Nevertheless, if there’s any manager who can steer Tottenham away from relegation, particularly with just seven games left, it’s Dyche.
