Tottenham Hotspur manager Thomas Frank has confirmed that summer signing Xavi Simons is ‘in contention’ to make his debut against West Ham United this weekend.
Spurs beat Chelsea to Simons’ signature in the dying embers of the transfer window, forking out a whopping £52 million to snap him up from RB Leipzig.
Simons was part of the Netherlands squad that drew Poland and beat Lithuania during the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers, although he was an unused substitute in the latter match.
Since returning to club duty, Simons has trained with his new teammates and will be itching to get his Tottenham career underway this weekend.
Frank also confirmed that Randal Kolo Muani could make his debut on Saturday.
The France international joined the club on a season-long loan from French champions Paris Saint-Germain on deadline day.
Kolo Muani has been training with the team and should get minutes in the London derby, although he could start the game on the bench.
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Thomas said: “Both [Simons and Kolo Muani] are looking good, both are definitely in contention to be ready for the squad.
“Xavi [Simons], for natural reasons, is further down the line. He just started the first game for Holland (against Poland last week) and a few games for Leipzig.
“Randal [Kolo Muani], it’s a while since he played. The last time was at the Club World Cup (with PSG) and didn’t really train with PSG, so he’s not as fit as Xavi, but he looks good.”
Tottenham hoping to bounce back from Bournemouth defeat
Tottenham went into the international break on the back of a narrow 1-0 defeat against Bournemouth in North London and will be keen to bounce back this weekend.
Frank kicked off the new era in astonishing fashion as his side breezed past newly promoted Burnley and Manchester City in their opening two games.
However, they were brought back down to earth courtesy of Evanilson’s 5th-minute goal last time out.
While Spurs will fancy their chances of getting back to winning ways, West Ham will be keen to maintain theirs after a thumping 3-0 win against Nottingham Forest.
