Yoane Wissa prefers reunion with Thomas Frank over Newcastle transfer

Tottenham Hotspur opened the transfer window with the signing of Mohammed Kudus, and Spurs are not done yet.

The North Londoners are still trying to sign Nottingham Forest attacking midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White.

Meanwhile, Tottenham also want to bring in a striker to provide competition for Dominic Solanke and received a massive boost on that latter front.

According to talkSPORT’s chief football correspondent, Alex Crook, “#NUFC have considered themselves out of the running for Ekitike ever since #LFC joined the party.

“Yet another one that got away. (Yoane) Wissa one option, but sources believe he would prefer a reunion with Frank at #THFC.

Tottenham have been linked with a move for the DR Congo international since his former Brentford head coach, Thomas Frank, joined the club.

The 28-year-old bagged 19 goals last term to help Brentford finish in mid-table, and would ease the burden on Solanke if he moves to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Solanke showed glimpses of his potential last season following his £65 million transfer from Bournemouth, but Spurs need more than nine league goals from whoever is leading the line.

Wissa makes sense as a transfer option as he has experience working with Spurs boss Frank and knows the Premier League well, improving year-on-year since he joined from Lorient in 2021.

He took the goalscoring mantle from Ivan Toney and has formed a devastating attacking pairing with Bryan Mbeumo. Frank hailed him as a No. 9 with “a nose for goals”.

However, whether Tottenham can stump up the reported £50 million fee remains to be seen. There are downsides to spending so much on a soon-to-be 29-year-old.

The club just took the punt on Solanke, and he needs his chance to deliver next season. Spurs will be better served swooping for a younger, cheaper option in the transfer market.
