Young Tottenham star could be set for surprise exit from club – has shown great promise

Juan Foyth may be on the verge of a shock Tottenham Hotspur exit, according to Argentine outlet Infobae.

The youngster enjoyed a promising first campaign in England, turning in some mature performances despite being mainly used in the cup competitions.

However, Boca Juniors believe that they may be able to tempt the 20-year-old into a return to his home country of Argentina over the summer.

They are on the verge of selling Lisandro Magallan to Ajax and as such will be looking to bring in a centre-back in the coming months.

Valencia’s Ezequiel Garay and Swansea’s Federico Fernandez are also linked with moves to La Bombonera.

Foyth only left Estudiantes for North London in August 2017 but Boca clearly hope that his lack of minutes push him towards the exit door.

The under-20 international is being groomed for a major role in the future at Tottenham and could see his prospects brighten over the course of the next term.

Jan Vertonghen and Davinson Sanchez were generally the preferred pairing for manager Mauricio Pochettino in 2017-18 owing to a hamstring injury which disrupted Toby Alderweireld’s season, but the 29-year-old Belgian is widely expected to leave the club in the coming months, with Manchester United thought to be the frontrunners for his signature.

That could leave an opportunity for Foyth to press his claim for more consistent inclusion, should Pochettino decide not to bring in a direct replacement for the former Atletico Madrid and Southampton man.

Boca’s interest is not likely to concern Tottenham; the centre-half would have known upon signing for Spurs that it would take a while for him to break into the team and he will be keen to prove himself in Europe.

Foyth is a major prospect for the Lilywhites and his compatriot Pochettino clearly sees enormous potential in the young man.
